Agnès Gayraud

Agnès Gayraud is a philosopher and a musician. She is a Professor of Sound Theory and Practices at ENSBA Lyon

Agnès Gayraud is a graduate of the prestigious École Normale Supérieure, holds an agrégation in philosophy, and a PhD in the field. She teaches sound theory and practices at ENSBA Lyon. The author of numerous academic articles on aesthetics, music, and Critical Theory, her recent work includes “It’s Gonna Rain! Premières éclaircies sur la boucle sonore” (Critique, special issue Sons. De la Musique aux arts sonores, Éditions de Minuit, August-September 2024). She is also an occasional music critic for the newspaper Libération.
In 2018, she published Dialectique de la pop (La Découverte), which was translated into English by Urbanomic in 2019 and into Greek by Fagotto Books in 2024. Alongside her scholarly work, she is a composer and songwriter, creating music under the name La Féline—with which she has recorded around ten albums—and as part of the project GRIVE.As a featured artist at the 2024 Lyon Contemporary Art Biennale, she presented 69 Oblique Strategies for Writing Love Songs at the MAC: an operational recording studio installation where various artists were invited to perform.
